JAMES Ellis has landed a new managerial role in the Southern League, following his exit from Poole Town.
Ellis was one of four managers during a tumultuous season at the Dolphins in 2023-24.
Following Tom Killick’s sacking, Matt Tubbs was hired, with Ellis part of his coaching staff.
In March, Tubbs also departed, with Ellis appointed interim manager until the end of the season, with the view of trying to secure the job full-time.
However, Poole’s form continued to nosedive, seeing them plummet towards the relegation zone.
So the club acted sooner than planned, removing Ellis from his role and hiring Steve Tully, less than a move after Ellis was appointed.
Upon his departure, Poole said: “James leaves us on the best of terms and with our very best wishes. He will make someone a very fine manager.”
One club hoping that is the case is Bemerton Heath Harlequins.
The Salisbury-based outfit, who compete in Division One South of the Southern League, have opted to appoint Ellis as boss, following the departure of Shaun Hale.
As well as managing at Poole, Ellis has previously coaching experience at Cherries, Bashley and his own football coaching company.
Bemmy finished 13th last season, following promotion.
Upon his appointment, Ellis said: “I firstly want to thank the club for putting their trust in me to lead the squad into the 2024-25 season.
“In recent years, under the brilliant leadership of Shaun, the club has gone from strength to strength.
“It’s important to keep the core of what is already a great group together, staff and players alike.
“I have had lots of positive conversations with players and staff over the last couple of days and the work has already begun.
“I’m excited for the season ahead.”
Among Bemerton’s pre-season schedule is a home game against Wimborne Town on Saturday, July 20.
