A STUNNING Charlie Davis free-kick earned Poole Town a 4-3 win against Portland United in their latest pre-season friendly.
Despite two leagues separating the two clubs in the pyramid, it developed into a close affair at Shaftesbury.
Archie Woolford scored a hat-trick for Portland, while Antonio Diaz and Billy Lowes (2) were also on target for Poole.
Boss Steve Tully handed a start to new signing Kye Cooper, who arrives on a one-month loan from Exeter City.
A chaotic 17-minute spell saw five goals arrive before half-time.
Diaz broke the deadlock having been set up by Tyler Forbes, only for Woolford to quickly equalise.
Woolford then netted again, latching onto a Jack Delves pass, rounding the trialist goalkeeper and slotting in.
Toby Holmes hit the post straightaway at the other end, before Lowes made it 2-2, smashing in from range.
Another fine finish from midfielder Lowes soon followed, to put Poole ahead at the break.
Within six minutes of the restart, Woolford had his hat-trick to tie the game up again.
But just before the hour mark came a moment of magic from summer signing Davis, expertly placing a free-kick into the top corner.
The flow of the contest faded after a raft of substitutions, Portland twice going close to a late leveller through Josh Camp and Freddie Beale.
Poole go to Brockenhurst on Friday (7.30pm).
