POOLE Town concluded their pre-season programme with an impressive 2-0 win over Worthing at BlackGold Stadium.
After a mixed bag of results over the summer, Dolphins defeated higher-league opposition thanks to goals from Toby Holmes and Harvey Slade.
There was also an impressive showing in goal from trialist Cameron Plain, who has recently been released by AFC Bournemouth.
Worthing finished third in National League South last season, beaten in the play-off final.
But Poole looked the better side in this contest, twice going close to taking the lead through Tyrique Clarke and Jake McCarthy, before Holmes did break the deadlock on 12 minutes.
The striker lifted the ball over goalkeeper Chris Haigh, after latching onto a loose ball.
Less than 10 minutes later, it was 2-0. Oakley Hanger played the ball into the box for Holmes to flick on for Slade, who tucked home.
Chances were at a premium for much of the rest of the night, but Plain was alert to make two impressive stops, one down low at his near post and one late on from point-blank range to preserve his clean sheet.
Plain, 20, was first choice for Cherries’ second string last season and had a spell on trial at Portsmouth earlier this summer.
