Hamworthy United boss Dan Cann diagnosed with motor neurone disease

Cann, 38, featured for various non-league clubs in Dorset during his playing days, including Poole Town and Wimborne Town.

He became boss of the Hammers in October 2022.

Taking to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Cann wrote: “Well, to say this has been a difficult tweet and knowing how to share this is an understatement.

“However, following some ongoing issues with my health, I have been diagnosed last Thursday with motor neurone disease.

“Openly, with my symptoms it’s what I expected, but it still has been a shock to me and my beautiful family to say the least.

“Anyone who knows me will know I’ll fight this all the way, am in good spirits and plan to continue on with life normally for as long as I can, including work and my beloved Hamworthy Utd.

“I would also like to raise awareness as much as possible and to do so plan to set myself some challenges to focus on.

“To anyone who has messaged me, a huge thank you from myself and my family. It means the world.”
