MELISSA Courtney-Bryant reasserted her claim as Britain’s third-choice female 1500m runner with a season’s best time at the Silesia Diamond League meeting.
The Poole Athletic Club star continued her successful salvage job, following the disruption of her campaign by illness in May and her omission from the Olympics.
Courtney-Bryant finished fourth in the Polish city of Chorzow, more than holding her own as seven athletes broke four minutes.
Two of those in front of her had contested the Olympic bronze medal. Paris fourth-placer Diribe Welteji won in 3:57.08 from her Ethiopian compatriot Freweyni Hailu (3:57.88). Team GB’s Olympic bronze medallist Georgia Bell was third again here (3:58:11).
Courtney-Bryant clocked 3:59.55, boosting her season’s best from the 4:01.70 she posted in Loughborough while the spotlight was on Paris. This was the fifth sub-four-minute time of her career.
Revee Walcott-Nolan, Team GB’s Olympic third string, finished tenth in 4:00.41.
