AFC BOURNEMOUTH goalkeeper Neto has signed for Arsenal on a season-long loan.

The keeper travelled up to north London on deadline day for a medical, after the two clubs reportedly agreed a deal on Thursday evening.

The Gunners were pursuing the Espanyol stopper Joan García but saw their bid of a €20m fixed fee plus add-ons rejected.

It’s understood that Arsenal will pay 100 per cent of Neto’s wages and that there is no option or obligation to buy clause in the deal.

Bournemouth had been looking to offload a keeper after signing Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga, also on a season-long loan, this week, with Andoni Iraola clear that he felt four first-team keepers was one too many.

Cherries club captain Neto has played a total of 63 times for the club, after joining in August 2022 from Barcelona.

The Brazilian played a total of 21 times for the Catalan club, which also playing for Juventus, Valencia, Paranaense and Fiorentina, playing 101 times for the latter.

To date this season, Neto has played every competitive minute for AFC Bournemouth, playing against both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle in the Premier League and against West Ham in the Carabao Cup.

He has made one appearance for the Brazil, in 2018, while also playing twice for the Brazilian Olympic side that won a silver medal at the London 2012 games.

Gary O’Neil handed the then-33-year-old the armband in February 2023, replacing Lloyd Kelly.

Last season, Neto played 32 times for Cherries in the Premier League, conceding 55 goals and keeping seven clean sheets.

Across his 63 appearances for the club, he has conceded 99 goals and kept 13 clean sheets.

He is likely to play second fiddle to David Raya at the Gunners, after former Cherry Aaron Ramsdale signed for Southampton on deadline day, on a four-year contract.
