POOLE Town hold onto a draw against Swindon Supermarine in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round.

Steve Tully’s side will go to a replay taking place on Tuesday evening after a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Swindon Supermarine this afternoon..

There were four changes to the Poole side following Monday’s derby day delight against Wimborne Town with Jack Hoey, Tom Hewlett and Tyler Forbes all making their first start of the season.

The game got underway, and Marine defended well in the early stages, only allowing the Dolphins a few long-range attempts from Jake McCarthy but these were no trouble for debutant goalkeeper Dan Brabham.

A flurry of yellow card for Poole, many of which were for dissent including a yellow for young striker Tom Hewlett who signed from Burton Albion in the summer.

The deadlock was finally broken on the 34th minute as Hewlett smashed it home on the volley after a fantastic ball in from Antonio Diaz.

The home side had a great chance to level the scores through Liban Ibrahim, but he was denied by a fantastic save from Cam Plain and the follow up was blocked by a last-ditch tackle from Harry Thomas.

Despite domination in the final stages of the first 45, the Dolphins held on and got to the break in the lead.

The second half continued in the same fashion, which was exacerbated following Hewlett receiving a dubious second yellow card for a hand to the face meaning the Dolphins had to play the remaining 35 minutes with ten men.

Supermarine equalised on the 63rd minute after great footwork from Michael Fernandes who was allowed time and space to place the ball into the corner of Cam Plain’s goal to level the score.

Despite heavy pressure from the home side, the Poole defence stayed resilient and defended well for the remainder of the game as it ended all square between the two teams meaning we will go to a replay at The BlackGold Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Steve Tully was pleased with his team’s performance, saying: “We found a way of hanging in there and got a result.”

Wimborne Town and Bashley progressed through to the next round of the FA Cup, whereas Tom Killick’s Dorchester lost 2-0 away from home to Banbury United.
