HAMWORTHY United made it five wins on the trot as they beat Romsey Town and Cove United.

Meeting last Tuesday, it was hosts Romsey who broke the deadlock after a slow start from both teams on 21 minutes after some poor Hammers play allowed Josh Jeffrey to convert past Sam Moggeridge.

Hamworthy created chances on half hour, with Bailey Rowe breaking through, but it came to nothing after a misplaced pass.

Connor Ford then misconnected with Neemo Nixon’s cross 10 minutes later at the end of what had been a below par first period for the visitors.

The second half began as the first had, with Hamworthy starting the period slowly.

They had their first shot of note in the game on 73 minutes which acted as a catalyst for the side, though.

On 79 minutes, Finlay West did very well to win the ball on the left wing, crossing for Rowe who made no mistake, making it six in a row for the marksman.

Hamworthy had all the late running and snatched three points in injury time.

Substitute Chirs Speers rose highest to head past the keeper, taking the win for Hamworthy who moved up to sixth in the Velocity Wessex League Division One.

The Hammers then hosted Cove in an even contest on Saturday, as both sides headed into the clash level on 10 points.

The home side opened the scoring on 15 minutes, after an under-hit ball across the goal by Neemo Nixon somehow went under the keeper and a defender into the net.

Rowe nearly added another minutes later, but the Wasps levelled on 23 minutes through George Owusu.

But it took just three minutes for the hosts to restore their lead, as Nixon’s ball in was cleared only as far as Olly Ponder, who powered the ball home first time.

It was not long before Town were level once again, as Cove captain Luke Edmunson’s free header from a corner found the back of the net on 28 minutes.

The sides entered the break at 2-2, despite a good Hammers chance to take the lead on the stroke of halftime.

It was the visitors who then took the lead after a strong start to the second period, as Nathan Connolly played through William Peters, who finished well.

Into the final six minutes of the game and the Hammers managed to level the scores.

Substitute Connor Ford rose at the far post to head home Finlay West’s cross, and it was the hosts who would go on to take an improbably three points in the dying minutes.

Deep into stoppage time, a delicate nudge forward by West found Josh Malpas, whose low ball across goal was slid into the roof of the net by Ford, sealing the 4-3 win for Hamworthy.
