POOLE-born Alice Tai won her second Paralympics medal in as many days as she took bronze in the 200m individual medley.
Tai, from Barton on Sea, qualified second fastest for the final behind Viktoriia Ishchiulova.
The 25-year-old raced into an early lead over the butterfly and backstroke legs, building a gap of six seconds at one stage.
But Tai was caught across the breaststroke leg by fellow Briton Brock Whiston and Ishchiulova.
It was neck and neck along the final freestyle leg, but it was Whiston who pipped the pair to the gold medal, in an event in which she holds the gold medal.
Whiston was sixth at the halfway stage but a spectacular final two legs saw her clinch the win.
Tai adds bronze to her collection a mere 24 hours after taking gold in the 100m S8 backstroke, setting a Paralympic record in the process.
But she is not done yet - Tai will go again in the 400m freestyle on Wednesday, the 50m freestyle on Thursday and the 100m butterfly on Saturday, in search of more medals.
