IN EACH of AFC Bournemouth’s opening four competitive matches this season, there has been late drama.

Antoine Semenyo scored just four minutes from time to level the Premier League game away at Nottingham Forest, before Dango Ouattara had a stoppage time winner controversially ruled out the following week against Newcastle.

Then, Jarrod Bowen scored an 88th minute winner in the Carabao Cup for West Ham against Cherries last week.

Finally, Andoni Iraola’s side mounted an extraordinary comeback at Everton, scoring three goals in nine minutes to win 3-2, having been 2-0 down after 87 minutes.

When asked by the Daily Echo why there has been such late drama in Cherries games this season, the Basque boss said it was not a new phenomenon for this term.

“I think past season it was kind of similar,” Iraola said.

“We lost a lot of points in games that we were winning. We had very good comebacks and we recovered a lot of points in games that we were losing.

“I think the way we normally play, quite open, quite physical, it opens a lot of the game at the end. Probably today was not this kind of game.

“But it's true that [in the] third game of the week for both teams, we could finally find some spaces.

“From the 70, 70 something minute, we could start filling some spaces.

“That's the reason why for us, the subs are so important, because at the end, probably you will find more chances playing the last 25 minutes than the previous minutes because in the first half, everyone is fresh, it's more difficult to make one against ones and make the difference.”
