SWANAGE and Wareham ended their pre-season with a visit to Tottonians, who play in the league above the Swans.
The visitors made a shaky start, and while they came back into the game through the middle period, they ran out of steam in the final 10 minutes.
Tottonians scored the first try after eight minutes, with Swans giving away two penalties which took the hosts into the five-metre line, before they crashed over from a catch and drive.
The lead was doubled minutes later as Swanage put the restart straight into touch, and from the resulting scrum on halfway, Tottonians’ winger scored in the corner.
The home side then added another seven points, as a grubber kick through was fumbled, with the score going to 21-0.
But Swanage hit back, as they collected the restart and Fijian winger Bale Korobure was found and scored in the corner to make it 21-5.
On 28 minutes it was Tottonians that extended their lead, with a push over try through the forwards, before Swanage number eight Joe Desmond powered over from a scrum to leave the score at 28-10.
Swans came into the game more in the third quarter, moving the ball well and putting the home side under pressure.
Seven minutes into the half Swanage made their pressure pay, through their other Fijian winger, Mesak Suilua, who ran round to score, taking Swanage to 15 points.
Swanage then brought themselves back within reach of the hosts, as Aaron Foskett scored under the posts, but the resulting conversion was missed, leaving the score at 28-20, despite both sides crossing for four tries.
But Tottonians pulled away in the final quarter of the game, adding tries through a catch and drive move and five minutes later scoring through a backs move.
Two quick scores in the final 10 minutes extended the host’s lead once again, taking the final score to 50-20, as Swans ended their pre-season with a defeat, ahead of their season opener on Saturday against Combe Down.
