BOURNEMOUTH Rugby Club has elected a new chairman in former diplomat Phil Sinkinson OBE.
The new chairman has called on supporters to get behind the club, saying that youth talent will be fundamental for the club’s future.
Previously serving as vice-chairman in 2013/14 and chairman in a highly successful period between 2014 and 2020, he replaces Simon Carkeet in the role after being elected at the club’s August AGM.
This follows the club securing significant investment and new owners in businessmen Richard Carr, Drew Mellor and Matthew Barker.
Sinkinson said: “It’s a golden time for this wonderful rugby club.
“We have the backing of a new board of directors who have taken on the responsibility for the finances of the club.
“It means we can focus on the governance, strong discipline and most importantly our youth and mini sections, which for me is the basis of this club.
“We’re now looking for the support of the community for both the youth programme and the flagship team. The more support we get, the better we play.”
He added: “I would like to acknowledge the hard work of my predecessor Simon Carkeet and his team of volunteers and executive committee members who worked tirelessly to keep the club running through some extremely difficult times over the past four years.”
Sinkinson’s predecessor was in post for four years, including strong leadership throughout a challenging spell during the pandemic.
Matthew Barker, Bournemouth Rugby Club director, said: “We’re excited to welcome Phil back to the role of Chairman.
“He has previously overseen winning Bournemouth Rugby Club teams and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience.
“This latest announcement shows our continued commitment to invest in the people and capabilities required to achieve success.
“All at Bournemouth Rugby take this opportunity to thank Simon for all he has given the club for the last four years and wish him and his family well.”
The club gets its season underway at Farnham on September 7.
