HAMWORTHY United lost narrowly to early flyers in the Velocity Wessex League Division One, Frimley Green.
Hosts Frimley finished 18th out of 21 teams last season but have started this season strongly, sitting 2nd ahead of the clash with Hamworthy.
United were just one place behind and were chasing a fifth successive league win when they made the journey to Surrey.
The Hammers welcomed back formidable centre half and makeshift forward Lewis Sainval from a knock he picked up in the week before.
The hosts made a fast start, opening the scoring with just six minutes on the clock, with Jim Ward’s glancing header from a free kick finding the back of the net.
But the Hammers levelled proceedings ten minutes later, after a sublime pass from Bailey Rowe found Neemo Nixon who struck past Frimley keeper Jake McKelvie.
Hamworthy took the lead themselves on 22 minutes.
Nixon turned provider as his cross found Sainval whose header found the back of the net.
The hosts equalised on 39 minutes, with Nic Ciardini bursting forward and laying off to Deane Stumbler, who tucked the ball home.
The sides went into the break at 2-2 after a hard-fought opening period, but it took just five minutes of the second half for Frimley to score what proved to be the decisive goal.
A long ball forward was met by Josh Bullen, whose precision ball through to Ciardini who finished well.
The hosts then controlled the rest of the game, and were well organised, while the Hammers gave it their best shot to equalise but were unable to find the net.
The three points for Frimley moved them up to top spot in the league, while the Hammers dropped two places to fifth.
