POOLE Town have been knocked out of the FA Cup by Taunton Town; despite leading the game with a two-goal advantage, Taunton completed the second-half comeback to win 3-2.
Steve Tully made two changes following the heavy 5-0 defeat to Swindon Supermarine last weekend with Tom Hewlett and Charlie Cummins coming into the starting eleven.
The Dolphins got off to the perfect start as Harvey Slade opened the scoring in the first three minutes as he rounded the goalkeeper and placed the ball into an empty net.
Poole almost doubled their lead less than ten minutes later as Tom Hewlett was played through but unable to convert from close range.
However, Hewlett did take his chance, on the 33rd minute after an excellent curling effort from 25 yards out found its way into the back of the net to give the Dolphins a 2-0 lead going into the break.
It was the away side that started the second half on the front foot and after countless attempts at goal, they finally got one back through Tom Smith who converted from close range.
The Peacocks levelled the score just a few moments later as Tom Smith scored a Paulo Di Canio-esque volley to give Taunton a deserved equaliser.
Following the goal, there was a 25-minute suspension of the game due to an incident behind the goal involving the fans which resulted in both sets of players walking down the tunnel.
The game did eventually get back underway, and it didn’t take long for Taunton to find their winner as Tom Smith secured his hattrick and ensured that Taunton progressed through to the next round of the FA Cup.
After the game, I spoke to Steve Tully, and he said: “From start to finish we were very poor, and I thought we were lucky to come in at half time 2-0 up.”
