WIMBORNE’S longest trip on the road of the season was not a happy one as they were heavily defeated by Merthyr Town.
The Welsh side showed why they are top of the league with a 6-0 demolition of Wimborne Town.
Wimborne skipper Sam Jackson was unavailable, so Billy Walker came into the side, with Harvey Wright moving to left-back.
Although the visitors gave a good account of themselves in the opening quarter, the hosts took the lead after 16 minutes after Wimborne failed to clear a loose ball.
The lead was doubled on 26 minutes, and despite chances at both ends, the hosts added their third in additional time at the end of the first period.
The task was made harder for Wimborne just four minutes into the second half, as Matty Burrows was sent off.
The fourth goal came just after the hour mark, as Wimborne offered little in the second period.
The hosts chalked up 18 attempts on the Wimborne net and scored their fifth goal on 77 minutes and their sixth on 83 minutes, with Merthyr’s Rees scoring four, to complete the rout.
