THE first Dorset County Padel Championships exceeded expectations as more than 80 entrants made it the largest county championship in the UK to date.
The 84 entrants took part in the inaugural event, demonstrating the thriving padel scene that continues to grow in the county.
One of the world’s fastest growing sports, the championships had a fantastic atmosphere as a large number of people turned out to watch.
Until November 2023, the county only had one padel court, at The West Hants Club, which was put in six years ago.
But since, two were opened at David Lloyd Poole and three at East Dorset Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, with the latter hosting the county championships.
The tournament saw juniors and adults of all ages and abilities take part, with four titles up for grabs.
It was Josh and Mohammed who took the U14 boys, with Josh and Logan winning in the U18 category.
James Whike and Kevin Wrigley took the men’s title, while Hannah Richards and Anna Sharp won the women’s.
Dorset Tennis thanked East Dorset LTCC for hosting the tournament, the event sponsor MDG Sports and all who contributed to its success.
Karen Adams of the club worked tirelessly to ensure the event ran smoothly, while tournament referee David Walrond managed the day’s events and presented the trophies.
