SKIPPER Ben Cook returned to Wimborne Road in imperious form to lead Pirates to the BSN Series title.
Poole retained the crown in stunning style, taking a convincing 57-33 win on the night and a 110-70 victory in the aggregate.
Cook won each of his four heats securing a maximum 12 points while rocket man Richard Lawson was also in fine form, taking a paid maximum in his five heats, winning four and only losing out to Zach Cook in heat 15.
Captain Cook returned to the Pirates side after a mandatory concussion stand down, with the side lining up at full strength.
Leading 53-37 after the first leg, Poole were very much the favourites to take the title.
After an uncharacteristic fall for Lawson in the very first corner of the meeting, the 38-year-old picked himself up and took his first win of the evening in a heat where the points were shared three apiece.
Heat two saw another 3-3 heat, with Tobias Thomsen taking the win, before Pirates took their first maximum of the night, Ben leading brother Zach Cook for a 5-1 heat victory.
Jake Mulford took the first win of the night for the Scorpions, with Tom Brennan crossing in second after passing Scunthorpe’s Jake Allen, who came through in third as the visitors took the heat 4-2.
In the fifth, the Cook brothers appeared to be onto another 5-1 victory, but Scorpions rider Simon Lambert fell and was excluded for the re-run.
But Leon Flint managed to get between the two brothers finishing behind Ben, as Pirates took the heat 4-2.
Lawson won his second heat of the night in the sixth, leading Sam Hagon across for a maximum 5-1 victory, after Scunthorpe’s Jake Allen managed to remarkably stay upright as he looked to challenge for the lead but couldn’t continue in the heat.
Tobias Thomsen suffered a mechanical problem in heat seven, but Brennan cruised to the win to ensure the points were shared.
Behind 25-17 after seven, the Scorpions closed the gap with a maximum 5-1 win in the eighth.
But Pirates hit straight back with a 1-2 of their own, once again thanks to the Cook brothers, Ben taking his third win of the night.
Not one to be outdone by captain Cook, Lawson soared to his third win of the night in heat 10.
Brennan led home Thomsen for another maximum for Pirates in heat 11, after a fantastic overtake from the Dane to take the second spot in the heat.
By this stage the title was secured for the hosts, the aggregate win out of sight for Scunthorpe.
Ben Cook took yet another comfortable victory in the 12th, with Vinnie Foord with a stunning overtake in the final corner to clinch third, seeing Pirates take the heat 4-2.
Lawson led Brennan home in the 13th, sealing Lawson’s fourth win of the night and the fifth maximum for Pirates.
Zach Cook took the win in the 14th, with Tobias Thomsen crossing in third to seal a 4-2 win for the hosts.
Cook won the final heat too, as Pirates finished in style securing the 1-2 and a 5-1 victory in the 15th.
That secured the 57-33 win on the night, taking the aggregate score to 110-70 for Pirates to complete their sensational defence of the BSN Series title.
Next up for Pirates is a trip to Oxford for the Championship Grand Final first leg, ahead of the second leg next Wednesday.
