CHERRIES entered the international break with a disappointing defeat away at Leicester City.
The hosts led inside the first 20 minutes through 19-year-old Facundo Buonanotte, who got the better of Marcos Senesi and fired past Kepa, as the hosts led at the break.
This lead was one that the Foxes would not relinquish, as Cherries threw everything at them in the second half, striking the woodwork twice and having a goal disallowed, but were unable to find the breakthrough.
Andoni Iraola made one change to his starting 11 that scored three first half goals against Southampton on Monday night, with Justin Kluivert returning in place of Dango Ouattara.
The hosts also made one change, as Jordan Ayew replaced Harry Winks, with last season’s FA Cup match winner Abdul Fatawu named among the replacements.
Leicester got the game underway but it was the visitors who had an early sighting of goal.
A free kick won by Evanilson on the left wing was whipped in by Marcus Tavernier and flicked on by the striker before being met by Marcos Senesi.
His header went wide but he would have been offside, had he found the net.
The Foxes registered the first shot on target as Buonanotte danced through the Cherries midfield and made space to shoot, but his effort was saved by Kepa.
The home side took the lead after 16 minutes as the 19-year-old played a neat one-two on the right wing with James Justin and burst into the box, wrong footing Senesi and blasting into the roof of the net past Kepa.
Leicester had a shout for a penalty five minutes later as a cross struck Illia Zabarnyi on the hand, but it was not given.
Cherries struggled to manufacture a clear-cut chance, with a scuffed Justin Kluivert shot straight at Mads Hermansen in the Foxes net and an Antoine Semenyo shot blocked in the box.
Foxes skipper Jamie Vardy missed a fantastic chance after 35 minutes, as he was put through one-on-one with Kepa, but his shot was well wide.
The first booking of the afternoon went to Leicester’s Jordan Ayew for a foul on Senesi on halfway with 40 minutes played.
Tavernier did well to dispossess Justin on the left wing for Cherries just before the break, but his flighted cross was too close to Hermansen and Bournemouth went into the break behind.
Iraola went to his bench at halftime, bringing Ouattara on for Kluivert as Cherries went in search of an equaliser.
They nearly found it after 48 minutes, when a brilliant Illia Zabarnyi header from a Lewis Cook free kick struck the post.
Leicester’s Ndidi went into the book, before a fantastic save from Hermansen to keep the game at 1-0.
The hosts attempted to play out from the back but a good Cherries press meant the clearance was well cut out by Senesi, who found Christie.
His resulting shot was headed for the bottom corner before the keeper got down to palm it behind.
Cherries made a double change shortly after the hour mark, as Milos Kerkez and Adam Smith were replaced by Alex Scott and Luis Sinisterra, with Cook slotting in at right back and Ouattara at left back.
The visitors had the ball in the back of the net as Lewis Cook’s free kick on the left had the smallest of flicks from Evanilson before finding the bottom corner, but the striker was marginally offside.
Ouattara struck the bar with a header with 18 minutes to play, after great work on the left by Sinisterra to find him in the middle.
Christie was replaced by Enes Unal moments later, as Vardy was also taken off for the hosts, replaced by Odsonne Edouard.
A Tavernier shot from distance was well over the bar, before the hosts had a penalty appeal waved away as Edouard went down in the box.
Striker Evanilson was replaced by David Brooks, as the game entered the final ten minutes.
Buonanotte and Mavididi were taken off by the hosts, replaced by Fatawu and Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
Senesi was booked as he took down Fatawu as he tried to break, before the defender did well to stop the Foxes’ man from playing a pass around the Cherries box minutes later.
Jordan Ayew was replaced by Boubakary Soumare with two minutes to play, as the hosts aimed to keep Cherries out in the final stages.
Unal missed a good chance with just minutes to play, after a Brooks ball in cleared the heads in the area and fell to the striker, but his first-time effort went over the bar.
Leicester held on for their first victory of the Premier League season as Cherries headed back to the south coast disappointed and empty handed.
