WIMBORNE Town were knocked out of the FA Trophy on penalties to Gloucester City after deservedly taking the tie to spot kicks.
Travelling to Gloucester, goals from Will Fletcher and Cam Munn took the tie the distance, and, with the shootout well into sudden death, the Magpies lost out to their hosts.
Tim Sills made two changes to the side that were thumped by Merthyr Town last weekend, with skipper Sam Jackson returning at left back and Joe Ryan starting wide on the right.
Both were involved in the opening goal, as Wimborne struck first after 10 minutes.
Ryan’s perfectly weighted pass found Munn in behind the home defence on the right, and his cross fell to Jackson who found Fletcher who headed home at the far post.
The hosts then took control of the game as they searched for a first half equaliser, with Wimborne keeper Ross Flitney busy in the net making saves to keep the Magpies in the lead.
But the leveller was coming and came through Gloucester’s Baidoo, the shortest man on the pitch, who perfectly timed a run at a corner to leap and head home from five yards.
The Tigers sensed more goals before the break, but Sam Roberts marshalling the Wimborne defence and Flitney’s fine form kept them at bay, with the scores level at halftime.
Gloucester’s first attack of the half on 49 minutes yielded their second goal, as Grubb found space for the hosts to the right of the penalty spot and fired home.
Wimborne then took control of the tie themselves and pressed for the equaliser, and they were helped as the hosts were reduced to ten men after a high body check from Ball on Jez Bedford saw him sent off.
The equaliser came on 82 minutes, as Matt Neale played Harry Baker in, arriving at the ball at the same time as the keeper.
The loose ball fell to Munn who fired home, but Baker was lifted from the pitch after picking up an injury in the process.
The game went on to penalties as neither side could find the decisive goal.
Level at four apiece after the regulation five penalties, the sides traded successful spot kicks before Wright blasted Wimborne’s ninth over the bar.
The visitors were knocked out in the third qualifying round for the second successive season.
