TOM Brennan was pleased to comeback from an ‘awful’ performance at Oxford to help steer Pirates to the Championship title.
Brennan stormed to a fantastic 13-point haul from his five rides for Poole in the second leg of the Grand Final at Wimborne Road, after picking up just 4+1 in the first leg.
Reflecting on the result, the Poole rider told the Daily Echo: “This team has worked so, so hard for this and this is one of the best trophies I think I've actually personally ever won.
“Amazing feeling, amazing team. All year we've worked for this, and this is the proof of what we had.”
Brennan was part of the Glasgow team that beat Poole in the Grand Final last season, but he ended as top scorer for Pirates against Oxford this season.
On his performance, he said: “I was awful at Oxford and it was one of those things where, I really wanted to improve myself today and we did, which was the main thing.”
The 23-year-old said he realised that the comeback was complete after heat 13, where he and Richard Lawson managed to beat the Oxford pair of Scott Nicholls and Sam Masters 4-2.
“I think that was really when we were like, we’ve finally done it,” he said.
“There was a bit where we were joint at one point and we obviously pushed through and managed to make it through.
“We always believed we could do it but at one point we definitely got a little bit worried but I know we were happy and pulled it off.”
The win was secured mathematically after heat 14 as Zach Cook and Tobias Thomsen combined for a 4-2 win.
“Tobi and Zach rode good,” Brennan said.
“It was one of those emotions [during the 14th] where we knew in the last couple of laps all we needed was a 4-2 and we're just like, stay there, boys, stay there.
He added: “Very, very proud to be a part of this right now.”
Looking forward, Pirates go again in the KO Cup this coming week, again against Oxford.
On the third final as Pirates aim for the treble, Brennan said: “We have one more to go for sure.”
