POOLE Town were unable to capitalise on their chances, as they were beaten 1-0 by Havant & Waterlooville at The BlackGold Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Manager Steve Tully made three changes to his side following Saturday’s goalless draw with Sholing as Antonio Diaz, Jam Smith and Toby Holmes made their way into the starting eleven.
The game got underway with end-to-end action as both sides went close early on.
Tyrique Clarke’s effort on the 15th minute was the first big chance of the match but he was denied by a great stop from Ben Dudzinski.
Only a few moments later, striker Rafa Ramos thought he had opened the scoring but great defending from the Havant backline prevented him.
A clumsy challenge from Havant’s Joe McNerney on Tyrique Clarke led to the referee pointing to the spot and awarding Poole a penalty.
Jake McCarthy stepped up but his spot kicked was well saved by Dudzinski as the scores remained level.
The half came to a close with either side able to break the deadlock.
The second half got underway with a slight shift in momentum as the Hawks grew into the game as it progressed.
The decisive moment in the match was on the 80th minute mark when Poole defender Harry Thomas was shown a straight red card for a challenge that was deemed to be ‘last man’.
With Poole on the back foot, only five minutes later, Havant were awarded a penalty for a foul by Tyler Forbes which was converted by Harvey Bradbury to give the away side a 1-0 lead.
Despite the Dolphins best efforts to get something out of the game, the referee’s whistle brought proceedings to an end with Havant taking all three points leaving Poole winless in four.
