WIMBORNE Town secured an emphatic victory over Tiverton Town as manager Tim Sills began his third year in charge of the club.
Three second half goals in just nine minutes from Will Fletcher, Jez Bedford and Josh Carmichael combined with a clean sheet sealed the three points in the Southern League Premier South.
Sills brought Charlie Philpott, Bedford and Matt Neale into his 11 in three changes from the side that played Gloucester ten days previous.
The game was played in heavy rain from the beginning, as visitors Tiverton tried to audaciously lob Philpott from the kick off, but the keeper caught comfortably in what would be his only save of the night.
The hosts created some half chances in the first period, as Bedford volleyed over after Fletcher headed on Sam Jackson’s long cross before Fletcher fired over the bar.
Harry Morgan then fired wide after good link-up play with Matt Neale and Joe Ryan had a shot blocked after a promising run.
But it was a frenetic opening half on a slippery surface with neither side creating any clear-cut chances.
The Magpies came out and dominated the second half, though, with the tone for the second period set in the first minute of the half as a flowing move saw Ryan’s shot blocked.
Further chances fell to Fletcher, Bedford and Ryan before the hosts opened the scoring on 63 minutes.
It was Fletcher who slotted into an empty net racing onto a back pass and rounding the keeper.
Two minutes later the lead was doubled, as Sam Jackson fired into the box, Harry Morgan miscued a shot but Bedford was on hand to finish from five yards.
The third was added by Carmichael after Bedford was fouled on the edge of the D on 71 minutes, firing home a low and powerful shot past the keeper from the freekick.
Wimborne controlled the rest of the game and took a comfortable 3-0 win to move up to 10th in the league.
