HAMWORTHY United moved up to fifth in the Velocity Wessex League Division One with a 2-1 victory over Romsey Town.
The first major chance of the game came to the Hammers with just seven minutes on the clock, with Town keeper Miles Bartram doing well to keep Jack Hughes’ effort out.
But the hosts went 1-0 up from the resulting corner, as Bailey Rowe glanced home just inside the far post.
Hamworthy missed a golden chance to double their lead on 14 minutes, with Rowe tapping to Hughes who fired wide when it appeared it would have been easier to score.
Romsey got themselves back on terms on 24 minutes, as Hubert Cegielka was given space to run through and slot past keeper James in the Hamworthy net.
Bartram made a remarkable save on 41 minutes to keep the game at 1-1, with the sides level at the break.
The hosts restored their lead in the 54th minute, as Hughes’ low cross was superbly turned in by Finlay West.
Romsey went close with a double chance on 72 minutes and with a Robbie Stapletun chance on 83 minutes, but they were unable to find the equaliser as Hamworthy saw out the game to secure the three points.
