ANDONI Iraola revealed that ‘it doesn’t matter’ who takes penalties for AFC Bournemouth – as long as they score.
The Cherries boss told the Daily Echo that there is no set taker for spot kicks, after Justin Kluivert converted from the spot to double their lead against Arsenal on Saturday, as Bournemouth went on to win 2-0.
Bournemouth’s only other penalty this season was missed by striker Evanilson against Chelsea.
With the striker on the pitch, having just won the penalty, it was the Dutchman who stepped up to score confidently against the Gunners.
On who was set to take penalties, Iraola said: “I think it's quite clear from us.
“I think Justin also scored in pre-season. I think in the moment when Eva [Evanilson] against Chelsea decided to shoot, there was a discussion in the moment with Justin.
“We have other players who can assume the responsibility, but at the end it doesn't matter.
“At the end we have to score goals. I don't care if you know who the goal scorer is or how the goals come.”
On the performance of the Brazilian striker, who arrived at Bournemouth for a club-record fee over the summer, Iraola said he was impressed with how he played against Arsenal.
As well as drawing the foul that led to Kluivert’s goal from the spot, Evanilson was also brought down by William Saliba in the first half, leading to the Arsenal centre back being shown a red card.
“I think he's doing very good things,” Iraola said.
“You know, this is what we asked him to do, to be a threat, attack the spaces very well, to be a problem for the opposite centre backs, and today he has been and he has done everything.
“I always say I will not value, not Evanilson, not the wingers, not the number ten, because they make the numbers or not.
“I think they have to help the team play better. And today for me, he made a difference even without probably appearing in the numbers, but he made a difference.”
After the victory over Arsenal, Iraola said the performance will give them confidence that they can get results against top teams.
games against a strong opposition but at the end you feel like it's not enough, one point against Chelsea, Newcastle for me they were at least as good as today the way we played.
He said: “I think it was an important game because we had already played very good“But at the end it's not bad luck, it's a matter of being more solid, more strong as a team and it's what the big teams do when they are a little bit better than you normally they punish you and I hope we can continue with this line even against them.
“But we finish with a clean sheet and I think it's a game that we should use to build our confidence but knowing that it's not going to be much easier now because we have Villa away, we have City next one at home.
“So we have to keep the level even go to a higher level if we want to continue adding points.”
