PIRATES were on tremendous form as they soared to the 2024 treble, adding the KO Cup title to their BSN Series and Championship trophies already secured.
Poole's victory over Oxford Cheetahs was confirmed after eight heats at Wimborne Road in fine fashion as Sam Hagon led Vinnie Foord for a 5-1 to bring the trophy home.
They are the first side to complete a speedway treble since Workington in 2018, and the first Poole team to accomplish the feat since 2003.
The victory capped off a fantastic season for Pirates, with the crowd in a celebratory mood throughout the night as the hosts took a 57-33 win on the night to seal a 114-66 aggregate win.
Poole could call upon their first choice one-to-seven, but Oxford saw five guests ride for them on the night.
Simon Lambert came in at two, Dan Gilkes at four, Jason Edwards at five, Ben Trigger at six and Connor Coles at seven.
Pirates needed just 34 points to secure the title, after their emphatic 57-33 victory in the first leg at Sandy Lane.
It was Poole’s Richard Lawson who led from the front from the first heat, taking the win as the points were shared three apiece.
In the second, the spoils looked like they would be shared after the opening laps, with Tobias Thomsen opening a healthy lead out front.
But after bike issues for Connor Coles, who was running third, Vinnie Foord took third spot to give Pirates the 4-2 heat victory.
Zach Cook was warned to remain stationary at the start of the third, with the heat re-set after the Cook brothers had made a strong start.
Oxford’s Dan Gilkes got the jump on Zach Cook after the first bend in the rerun, but Ben Cook led the heat home to give Pirates another 4-2.
The first 5-1 of the night went Poole’s way in the fourth as Tom Brennan took the chequered flag ahead of Foord in second, with the aggregate lead extending to 32 points for the home side.
Ben Cook took another race victory in heat five, as the points were shared three each, before Lawson soared to his second win on the night in the sixth, with Sam Hagon crossing third to give Poole the heat, 4-2.
Brennan led Thomsen for a 5-1 in the seventh for the hosts as the aggregate lead continued to grow.
And the title was secured in fine style in the next heat as Hagon led Foord over for a 5-1 victory to give Poole an unassailable lead in the aggregate.
The points were shared in the ninth as the Cheetahs secured their first heat victory of the night through Jason Edwards, although Ben Cook pushed him hard through the final bend as the points were again shared.
The first crash of the night came in the tenth as Dan Gilkes hit the deck, but he was straight up and attempted to clear the track of the approaching riders.
He was unable to do so and was excluded from the re-run, which was impressively taken by Ashton Boughen for the Cheetahs, holding off Lawson and Hagon in a shared race.
There was another shared heat in the 11th as Oxford skipper Sam Masters took the win ahead of Brennan and Thomsen.
Skipper Ben Cook controlled the 12th for his third win of the night, as Ben Trigger split Cook and Foord for Pirates to take the heat 4-2.
Not to be outdone, Rocket Man Lawson won in the 13th, with Edwards and Masters crossing in second and third, under pressure from Brennan throughout, as the points were shared.
Gilkes crashed out in the first bend of the 14th, with all four riders called back to the start, before Zach Cook and Thomsen combined for a Pirates maximum in the re-run.
Ben Cook and Lawson were beaten by Oxford skipper Masters in the 15th but the points were shared as Pirates soared home to a 57-33 win on the night, completing a 114-66 aggregate victory.
