BOURNEMOUTH scored 11 tries in a ‘cracking’ 73-7 victory over North Dorset.

After conceding the first try at Chapel Gate, the Lions saw off the threat of a powerful pack to romp home over the 80 minutes.

The result sees Bournemouth move up to third in the Regional Two South Central table.

Director of rugby, Will Croker, said it was a sloppy start from his side in the opening 10 minutes, with unforced errors for both sides, as the visitors crossed the line off a clever set play from a lineout on the five-metre line.

“After that we then moved it up a gear and by the end we were playing some sensational rugby,” Croker said.

“We scored 11 tries, three of them for Ryan Morell, two for Maverick Goodchild and the rest of them were spread about and Grant Hancox kicked nine conversions, which was a sensational effort.”

Bournemouth now go into a rest week, with Croker saying the side has plenty to focus on over the two weeks.

“We've still got to look to move the ball early into space, let that do the work for us.

“But there was some great passages of play and I'm over the moon with how the team are starting to get the picture that I and we as the coaches wanted to try and create for the team.”

The Lions have a tough November in the fixture list.

“Petersfield away, who are a very good team and have been narrowly beaten at the weekend,” Croker said.

“So, they'll have two weeks to stew on it, then Chichester at home and then a very big game against Wimborne away at the end of the month.

“So, we're looking forward to coming in this week, perhaps taking a little bit of the edge off some of the physicality and working more on our mental approach.”

The second team, the Nomads, had a narrow two-point loss to a strong Gosport and Fareham team away from home, 29-27.

Croker said they are disappointed with the result and felt they had the squad to win the game, but they picked up two points on the road through losing and try bonus points.

“Whilst not what we would have been searching for when we looked at this block of games, it’s still something to cling onto and to take away,” Croker said.

Bournemouth’s third team are ‘absolutely flying’ in their league after a resounding 61-0 victory over Swanage and Wareham.
