WIMBORNE Town boss Tim Sills believes his side can build on the positive start made to the campaign.
The Magpies currently sit in 11th place after 13 games played following their promotion to the Southern Premier League South last season.
The ten men of Wimborne come off the back of an unfortunate 2-1 defeat to Plymouth Parkway in which Cameron Munn was shown a second yellow card.
Despite the defeat on the road, Sills is pleased with how his side have started the season.
He said: “We’re feeling positive with how we’ve started but we now want to build on it.
Sills added: “It has taken a little while for things to settle down, but the boys now know we belong here.”
Wimborne Town were crowned champions of the Southern League South Division last season, in a campaign where they went unbeaten at home.
Throughout this season, they have shown that they’re able to compete at this level with convincing wins over sides such as Gosport Borough and Hungerford Town.
Regarding his side’s performances this season, he said: “We’ve played and beaten some very good and established teams at this level.
“The outlook now is that we know we can compete in this league, so we need to make sure we show it every game.
“We’re 11th at the moment, and I think before a ball was kicked, we would have taken that come the end of the season.”
Sills took charge of the Magpies in 2022, following a managerial spell at Hamworthy United.
During his tenure, his Wimborne side have shown clear improvement, topped off by his title winning season last campaign but knows the importance of his side establishing themselves within the division.
Sills said: “It’s important for us to keep developing to establish ourselves at this level and maintaining our standards throughout.”
He added: “If we’re able to hang around that mid-table position, then you hope at some point we can put a good run together and see where it can take you.”
During the week, Wimborne Town announced that defender Connor Cocklin has left the club to join Bemerton Heath Harlequins.
Cocklin made 65 appearances for the Magpies, scoring six goals and played a vital role in their title winning campaign last season.
Regarding Cocklin’s departure, Sills said: “Connor has been unlucky with game time and some of the games he has played have been heavier defeats.
“He’s not played as much as he wanted, so he’s gone to get more play time.
“He leaves the club with our best wishes but we’re happy with the squad at the moment.”
Next up for the Magpies is a home fixture this Saturday against Chertsey Town with a 3pm kick off.
