THE Cherries marched on in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with a comfortable 4-0 victory over AFC Portchester.

AFC Bournemouth reached the third round in the cup for the second time in their history with the win away at the Southern Premier Division side.

Battling Storm Bert, Molly Barron-Clark gave the Cherries the lead, but the task was made more difficult for the visitors as Amber Treweek was sent off with more than 60 minutes to play.

But Chloe Gilroy doubled the Bournemouth lead just 32 seconds into the second half before a Gemma McGuinness brace secured the club’s progression to the next round, where they will travel to Ipswich.

The best chance of the opening exchanges fell to the hosts, through former Cherries skipper Gemma Hillier.

Erin Foley, though, pulled off a crucial save to parry her shot away after she went through one-on-one with five minutes on the clock.

(Image: Richard Crease) Three minutes later the Cherries took the lead, as Barron-Clark’s cross flew over keeper Roxy Roberts thanks to some help from the wind.

Jenna Markham saw an effort scrambled clear before Barron-Clark had an effort saved by Roberts from a 25-yard free kick.

The stopper in the Portchy net was busy and saved from a Katie James effort, before Erin Bloomfield struck the crossbar.

Treweek was shown a straight red card for the visitors in the 29th minute after she brought down Hillier.

However, the away side flew out of the traps in the second half and netted twice in two minutes to put the tie firmly in their control.

(Image: Richard Crease) Steve Cuss’s side doubled their lead after Gilroy’s rocket of a shot from 25 yards gave Roberts no chance inside the first minute of the half.

McGuinness made it three when she guided a header over the keeper.

Her brace was completed in the 57th minute as she fired Kelci Bowers’ low cross into the bottom corner after Bowers’ driving run down the right wing.

Roberts did well to keep the lead at just four, though, clawing away a Bloomfield header at her near post.

She was in action to the end, making a fantastic double save from Bloomfield and teammate McGuinness hunting her hattrick.

Bloomfield tried to convert the loose ball but her shot was cleared off the line by a defender.

AFC Bournemouth will travel to National League Southern Premier Division side Ipswich in the next round, with the tie to be played on Sunday, December 8.

The Tractor Girls currently sit top of their league, in the tier above the Cherries, and are unbeaten in the league, winning eight and drawing two so far this season, while scoring 47 goals and conceding just five.
